You have a recalled product — what to do
Every official recall notice specifies its own remedy — this is the general playbook.
1. Stop using it
Don't eat, use, or resell it. It is illegal to resell a recalled consumer product.
2. Match the exact codes
Recalls apply to specific lot codes, date codes, UPCs, serials, or VINs — not the whole brand. The official notice (linked from every row on this site) lists the exact identifiers. Check your item against them before discarding anything.
3. Follow the stated remedy
Food: usually return for refund or discard. Products: refund, repair kit, or replacement — the CPSC notice includes the company contact. Vehicles: recall repairs are performed free at franchised dealers; schedule with your VIN.
4. Sanitize if it's a contamination recall
For Listeria, Salmonella, or E. coli recalls, clean refrigerator surfaces, containers, and utensils that touched the product with hot soapy water or a sanitizer.
5. If someone got sick
Contact a healthcare provider; report food illness to FDA (1-888-SAFEFOOD) or USDA's hotline (1-888-MPHotline), product injuries to saferproducts.gov, and vehicle safety issues to nhtsa.gov.
